Growing interest in home batteries makes installation quality and aftercare important buying criteria. A national target or sales trend does not establish that a particular system is right for your property, or that a short lead time is evidence of either good or poor work.
Plan the installation timetable
An installation needs time for design, connection requirements, equipment supply and electrical work. Check roof constraints, switchboard space, backup priorities and aftercare before choosing a booking date.
What quality looks like during an installation
- A household load profile and documented sizing rationale.
- Switchboard and connection requirements checked before installation.
- A complete equipment and installation scope.
- Monitoring access, handover records and named support responsibilities.
- An installation date that allows the design and approvals to be completed.
The installation timetable should allow the specified design and commissioning work to be completed.
How to move without jumping the queue badly
- Identify whether the priority is bill savings, backup or both.
- Ask how the proposed configuration meets demand, not only when it can be installed.
- Allow time for the specified installation and commissioning work.
Ask for an agreed scope and a timetable that explains the steps before installation.
Ask for a realistic installation timetable with the design, permissions and equipment confirmed. A convenient date is useful only when the scope is ready.
Verify the people and equipment
The ACCC’s solar and battery guidance recommends researching suppliers and comparing the proposed products and terms. Installer accreditation can be checked through Solar Accreditation Australia; relevant electrical licensing and program requirements also need to be satisfied.
Ask who will actually install the system and who is responsible for commissioning and aftercare. A subcontracting arrangement can be legitimate; the important point is that responsibilities are clear.
