Adding Wi-Fi Control to an Existing Ducted Air Conditioner
Check whether your existing ducted air conditioner supports Wi-Fi control, what a compatible upgrade can do, and which local controls and account access remain.
Check whether your existing ducted air conditioner supports Wi-Fi control, what a compatible upgrade can do, and which local controls and account access remain.

You may be able to add Wi-Fi control to an existing ducted air conditioner without replacing the heating and cooling equipment. Compatibility must be checked against the exact indoor unit, controller and zoning arrangement.
An app adapter and a complete zoning upgrade are different purchases. Decide which function you need before asking for a retrofit quote.
Collect the indoor and outdoor model numbers, controller name and any separate zone-control equipment. Use installation documents or safely accessible labels; do not open electrical enclosures to find them.
Ask the installer to confirm the supported combination in current manufacturer information. Brand compatibility alone is not a sufficient answer when equipment spans several generations.
AirTouch provides a model compatibility tool and explains that existing-system retrofits need a compatibility check.
Check your exact model with AirTouch.
Our air conditioning team can review whether the existing equipment and controls support the functions you want.
An unsupported result is a reason to reconsider the control approach, not automatically replace the whole unit.

List the actions you want: start and stop, change temperature, adjust mode, use a schedule or control existing zones. Ask which of them the proposed adapter actually exposes.
Daikin’s Airbase documentation illustrates why model and controller combinations matter. Zone on/off functions require a compatible zone controller; an app alone does not create independently controlled rooms.

Adding an app does not create motorised dampers, additional room sensors or a new airflow design. Those require suitable physical equipment and commissioning if they form part of the upgrade.
For an illustrative household, remotely starting the existing living-area schedule may only require a supported interface. Creating separately sensed bedroom zones is a larger design question.

Confirm Wi-Fi coverage where the controller or adapter will sit, the network requirements and the supported phone app. A strong signal beside the lounge router does not establish coverage at the installed interface.
AirTouch’s current connection guidance distinguishes home Wi-Fi from internet access needed for remote operation. Requirements should be checked for the exact controller generation.
Ask the installer to demonstrate local operation and explain what happens when the router or internet connection is unavailable. Do not assume every product handles an outage in the same way.
Create the owner account using an email address you control and keep recovery details securely. Ask how access is removed for an outgoing owner or added for another authorised household member.

Request an itemised quote covering adapter, controller changes, required wiring, setup and training. Confirm whether existing controls remain and whether any capability is lost.
For a wider electrification plan, ask whether the control choice supports your intended household schedules without promising unverified integrations.
An app may help you avoid unnecessary operation, but it does not guarantee bill savings. Remote access can also make it easier to run the system longer if the schedule is not considered.
If you want to align operation with solar generation, distinguish a fixed timer from a system that genuinely responds to measured surplus. Do not call the first one automatic solar control.
Keep a functioning local controller if it already meets your needs and a retrofit adds little value. Address an existing airflow or equipment fault separately; a phone interface will not repair it.

Send the model numbers, controller photos and the functions you want when you ask about a retrofit. That allows a compatibility-led quote with the hardware and limitations clearly identified.
