Designed around your needs
A low headline price is only useful when you know what it includes. Roof access, shading, your switchboard and the connection approval can all change the design. We review those details alongside your electricity use before recommending a system. If a battery or EV is on your list, tell us now so the solar design can account for it.

A recent bill is a starting point. Usage by time of day helps distinguish electricity you can use directly from solar that may be exported.
Tell us about a battery, EV charger or electric heating plans. Inverter compatibility and capacity matter when you add equipment later.
Compare with confidence
Keep these details together when comparing equipment options or quotes. Ask for clarification wherever a cost or responsibility is unclear.
Talk through your optionsPrice and scope
System size is one part of the price. Equipment selection, a two-storey roof, difficult access, switchboard work and cable routes can also affect the quote. Compare the complete installed scope and confirm which site conditions could lead to a variation. We use a property-specific proposal rather than an unverified online price estimate.

Keep the panel capacity, inverter output, installation scope and incentive assumptions beside each other when comparing proposals. A larger array does not automatically produce a better return: daytime consumption, export limits and your electricity plan all matter. Any projected savings should show the tariff, generation and self-consumption assumptions used.
A useful solar quote connects the proposed panel capacity to your electricity use. Two households with similar quarterly bills can need different designs: one may run appliances throughout the day, while the other uses most of its electricity after sunset. Share your usage pattern as well as your bill total so the proposal can explain what happens to the electricity your panels generate.
For example, a household planning an electric vehicle and reverse-cycle heating should discuss those future loads before selecting equipment. That does not mean installing the largest system the roof can hold. Ask to compare a design for your current needs with an alternative that accounts for the upgrades, including the extra cost and the assumptions behind it.
Panel capacity and inverter output are different figures. Both should appear in your quote, together with the expected annual generation and any network export restriction. A generation estimate should reflect your actual roof layout and shading rather than applying a generic production figure to every home.
The roof assessment should identify usable sections, their direction and pitch, and shading from trees, chimneys or neighbouring buildings. Ask to see the proposed panel layout. This makes it easier to understand why two installers might recommend different panel counts for the same address.
For a Melbourne solar quote, ask how the modelling accounts for seasonal daylight and local weather. Summer production should not be treated as a year-round expectation. An east- or west-facing roof also deserves an assessment of when it could generate useful electricity, rather than being dismissed simply because it does not face north.
Roof condition matters before installation. If reroofing or other building work is planned, discuss the sequence before accepting a proposal. The quote should also identify access equipment, roof-specific mounting and any work that remains subject to an inspection.
Compare exact Australian product models, not just a logo or a description such as premium panels. Ask what each equipment choice contributes to the design, whether that is fitting the available roof area, handling a particular layout or supporting a future battery. An upgrade is easier to evaluate when its purpose and extra cost are clear.
Keep panel product warranties, panel performance warranties, inverter warranties and installation workmanship cover separate. They describe different responsibilities. Ask who you contact if something stops working, what evidence is needed and whether labour, access or freight costs are covered under the relevant terms.
Monitoring is another useful comparison point. Confirm what information you can see, whether household consumption monitoring is included and what internet connection is required. A display showing solar generation alone will not necessarily show how much electricity the household exports or buys.
Federal small-scale technology certificates and Solar Victoria support should be shown as separate items. Ask for the gross installed price, each proposed incentive and the final payment required. This helps you compare quotes even when retailers present their discounts differently.
Solar Victoria eligibility must be approved before installation for its solar panel rebate. Check the current application requirements and equipment conditions before committing to an installation date. If you are considering its optional interest-free loan, distinguish the upfront reduction from the repayments: a loan changes payment timing, rather than making that part of the system free.
Ask what happens if an assumed incentive is not approved, your installation date changes or site work costs more than expected. Clear written conditions are more useful than a headline price with unexplained exclusions.
From enquiry to proposal
Choose a consultation time below, or call our team. Explain your property, priorities and timing.
Have your property address, a recent electricity bill and your upgrade goals ready. Only provide existing photos of your roof or switchboard if available; there is no need to climb onto the roof or open electrical equipment.
Review the recommended equipment, installed scope, incentives and any outstanding site checks before deciding.
Available times
Choose a consultation time with Lightning Energy. This starts a conversation about your project; it does not commit you to an installation.
No. This is a direct enquiry to Lightning Energy. We can discuss equipment and system options for our proposal; this is not a multi-installer comparison service.
No. Start with your address, electricity use and goals. Roof constraints, connection requirements and future loads help determine a suitable design.
Yes. Solar-only and solar-plus-battery systems serve different needs. We can discuss a battery pathway without assuming storage is right for you now.
Your proposal should identify each applicable incentive separately and explain eligibility. Solar Victoria support and federal small-scale technology certificates are separate arrangements; approval and installation requirements still apply.
Choose a consultation time using the booking section, or call the team. We will review your requirements and explain what information or site assessment is needed for a proposal.
