Heat Pump Hot Water Rebate: Get Up To $2000 Off

If I told you, you could save energy and money by using a heat pump, you probably wouldn’t believe me. Well, it is true. With the heat pump rebate, you can get up to $2000 off to assist with purchasing the solar hot water systems.

Our state of Victoria has recognised the number of energy households use through hot water systems. So they have decided to reward those who opt for a solar hot water or heat pump hot water system.

This is because solar or heat pump hot water systems typically use less energy to heat water and can be run using renewable energy. So it reduces not only greenhouse emissions but also your energy bills. On top of that, the Solar Homes Program supports Victorian households to save even more.

We are lucky that the Victorian governing body has recognised the power of renewable energy sources. They also provide a solar panel rebate and a solar battery rebate to help make solar energy more affordable.

In this guide, I will cover everything you need to know about the heat pump rebate and whether you are eligible for the scheme. Before I start, it is important to mention that the rebate is only planned to last 10 years. So, if it is something you are interested in applying for, we recommend taking advantage of it soon.

Get in touch with us if you are interested and want to get started applying for this rebate today. Now, let’s dive into how you can get $2000 off with the heat pump hot water rebate.

You Can Claim Up To $1000 In The Vic Hot Water Rebate For Heat Pump or Solar Hot Water Systems

So, the Victorian governing body has said you can claim up to 50% of your hot water system (this maxes out at $1000). Hot water is one of the biggest energy users in the home, resulting in up to 16% of most households’ energy bills.

Therefore, the Victorian state has recognised the rising cost of heating hot water and the consequential effects of climate change.

A solution to help try and tackle both issues is the Solar Home Program. It is suitable for most homeowners looking to slash more on their energy bills and become more independent from the grid.

Offering a 50% hot water rebate helps Victoria move toward a sustainable future and encourages homeowners to move towards more renewable energy sources. Sometimes it can be daunting to change over to solar-powered systems due to either cost or efficiency. Offering a rebate scheme gives people that little nudge to help them commit to a more sustainable future.

Some Homeowners Can Claim The Hot Water Rebate Even If You Already Had The Solar Panel Rebate

I briefly mentioned earlier the solar panel rebate scheme introduced by the Victorian government to drive the state away from gas. There has been speculation that if you have already had the solar panel rebate, you can’t get the hot water rebate. That is not true.

Even if you have claimed the solar panel rebate, you are still eligible for the hot water rebate. That is 190,000 people who are now also eligible for the new heat pump hot water rebate. Pretty good right?

However, from now on, you will only be able to participate in one rebate for homeowners looking to install solar now. So, if you have neither, you can only apply for a solar or hot water rebate.  But, if you happen to have already claimed the previous rebates, then you get to benefit from this.

Personally, I think this is an amazing feature by solar Victoria. The reason is probably that it is quite a new rebate, and they need to get the ball rolling. However, it is very worthwhile if you ask me.

To summarise, if you have solar and claimed the previous panel rebate then you are eligible to claim the new heat pump hot water rebate as well. What are you waiting for?

You Could Be Able To Save Up To $400 Per Year On Your Energy Bills With a Heat Pump Hot Water System

It’s estimated by Solar Victoria that you will be able to save up to $400 per year on your energy bills with a hot water system. This is a significant amount for a lot of homeowners and can make a big difference.

In 2018, Andrew’s government predicted that the solar hot water system could save homeowners $400, so what’s not to say it could save you more. This is exactly why the heat pump hot water rebate is available for homeowners across Victoria.

However, in the current climate of the world and the constant rise in gas and electricity prices, it is important to start moving to more affordable renewable resources.

Not only this, but it makes you more energy independent and escapes energy price hikes. Also, don’t forget it moves you towards a more sustainable future, putting you ahead of the curve and making your life much easier.

Let’s be realistic here… Prices of energy are only increasing and along with that our energy consumption is increasing as well. That means we use more energy every year than the previous period.

Future forecasts show that we are going to continue to use more and more energy and therefore our bills are going to increase. However, one future proof solution is to consider the hot water rebate and get yourself ready for what’s ahead.

Are You Eligible To Claim The Heat Pump Hot Water Rebate?

So the big question is, are you eligible to claim the heat pump hot water rebate?

Victorian households are eligible for the solar hot water rebate for the approved solar hot water systems if they:

  • The owners of the property
  • Have a combined household taxable income of less than $180,000 per year.
  • Not already received a solar battery rebate or solar hot water rebate
  • In a property valued under $3 million
  • The hot water system being replaced is 3 years or more from the date of purchase
  • The solar hot system is on the Solar Homes Program-approved product list.

So, most people fall within the category unless they earn over a certain amount. Apart from that, you obviously can’t claim it twice. If you are confident you fit the criteria, you can start applying for the solar hot water rebate.

How Can You Claim The Solar Hot Water Rebate?

The easiest way to apply is through your chosen hot water installer who can help you get the rebate without you doing all the hard work. It’s more of a stress free experience and allows you to see the savings upfront as well.

This makes it easier for you and better because you will see the savings from the quote rather than having to apply for a rebate once you have paid for everything. We will then apply for the rebate on your behalf, so you don’t need to do anything.

This stress-free approach aims to help homeowners with an easy move to solar. In my eyes, it is a no-brainer. You are helping the environment, saving money, and getting a $1000 rebate on your solar hot water system assisted by us, who will take the stress of applying away.

We’re glad Solar Victoria has it set up like this, it makes it much easier for everyone who is involved. You can speak to one of our design engineers today.

This Rebate Will Not Last Forever, And Is Due To Finish Within 10 Years

This is the perfect time to take advantage of this rebate; it will drop further in value every year, like the current solar panel rebate. But, as it keeps dropping, you will lose the opportunity to get the most for your system.

Don’t forget, the price of solar isn’t dropping. Some of it is increasing due to shipping and demand, now is the best time to buy solar.

The way I think about it is logical. If it is down to the cost, work out how much you spend on energy every year. The more you wait, the more money you are going to spend on energy bills that could be invested into solar energy.

Especially now, government rebate systems offer to give you money to switch to solar hot water systems, batteries and solar panels. Government incentives won’t last forever, so take full advantage of them while you can!

You Can Also Get STCs From The Federal Government Rebate As Well (From $1000+)

STCs are Small Scale Technology Certificates given by the Federal Government. You can claim these as well as the Victoria hot water rebate, meaning you will see even more significant savings.

Once you have claimed these certificates, you can later sell them for money or let your solar installer do the claiming for you. This makes solar even more affordable as you can deduct the price of the STC.

I suppose the end story is that you can get even more off the cost of your solar hot water system with these incentives. But, as I’ve explained in my solar rebate blog, this will not last forever and is due to finish by 2030.

Therefore, alongside the solar hot water systems heat pump rebate and STC, you can save yourself a lot of money on solar.

Conclusion:

Overall, I would say the heat pump hot water rebate is an excellent financial incentive. It’s being promoted by the Gov because it’s a very good incentive

Now is a great time to consider installing a solar hot water system, as the federal rebates combined with the heat pump rebate make it easier. Once installed, you will save money and move towards a more sustainable future.

If you are looking to get the hot water rebate, please feel free to get in contact with us, and we can give you a quote. We can help you get the rebate quicker and apply on your behalf, which helps save you time.
